Remember when LEDs were just crazy little two-pronged lights you used for your electronic discovery kits? We do. And remember when you saw your first compact fluorescent bulb with the trademark spiral shape? Year later, these lighting technologies are more common than the old-fashioned incandescent bulbs. LEDs slowly started showing up in consumer electronics (except for the elusive blue color, and CFLs became more popular as their price dropped. Nowadays, instead of being used as small indicator lights on toys, LEDs are everywhere, and CFLs are so familiar, we expect them to be used instead of regular bulbs. Most exciting is that LEDs are now beginning to replace standard light bulbs and CFLs for real lighting implementations. And why not? They’re bright, super efficient, and super cool.
